Cohuna's Stuart Appleby became the fifth person in US PGA history to shoot 59, on his way to claiming his ninth US PGA Tour career title at the Greenbrier Classic!

Appleby came out firing on the final day in West Virginia shooting 11-under to jump seven spots up the leader board to take the win from third round leader American Jef Overton, who finished a shot behind Appleby in outright second.

On his way to claiming the title Appleby shot nine birdies and one eagle to take top spot, today's round his second consecutive bogey-free round of the tournament.

Throughout the four days Appleby;s scorecard showed only one blemish- his sole bogey of the tournament coming on the par three 15th during the second round.
Quite amazing Appleby's is the second 59 in 25 days on the US PGA Tour. No player has ever shot a lower score in Tour history.

American Paul Goydos shot the fourth 59 in US PGA history on July 8, 2010 during the first round of the John Deere Classic.

Appleby's previous career low round was 62, which he shot at the 2003 Las Vegas invitiational.

The Greenbrier Classic was played on The Old White Course, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia (Par 70) netted Appleby the first prize cheque of US$1,080,000 (AUD$1,192,987.90)

The win is Appleby's first on the US PGA Tour in four years., his last victory coming in 2006 when he claimed both the Mercedes Championship and the Shell Houston Open in the same year.

Exempt Status - with this win Appleby...

  • Earns fully-exempt status through the end of the 2012 season.
  • Earns a spot in the next week's World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invititational.
  • Earns a spot in the 2011 SBS Championship, an event he won three consective years from 2004-06.
